Corn Shumai and Hokkaido bento

During our weekly grocery shopping we found the japanese pumpkin! Yes, Hokkaido Pumpkin! I don't know why 'hokkaido', but it's THE good pumpkin!

The pumpkins we see at european supermarkets are the same pumpkins that you use to dig and empty the gut out with a big spoon to put candles for halloween.

What we found today(actually Odebu spotted it buried under other kinds) was the nice deep green pumpkin that we love to eat in Japan.

Buying a pumpkin was of course not on our shopping list, but it was the JAPANESE deep green pumpkin I just had to have it!! All the things I could do with it flashed in my mind.

Simmered pumpkin, pan fried, salad, croquette, hummm

I decided to start the tour of Japanese Hokkaido Pumpkin taste experience with odebu with simplest pan fried with salt & pepper with drops of oil.

Oh and stuffed the bento with corn shumai, the recipe I found on the net, they don't look perfect coz' I had them freezing since Thursday or so, corn bits fell off making them look bald.

I can just see how Odebu is going to cry in plain joy when he eats this bento!

Meat Onigiri

I found the recipe of this meat onigiri as to compensate my yarning for thin sliced meat so that I can wrap rice balls. There is no such slice of meat here. Maybe I might find a butcher nice and brave enough to slice meat without slicing fingers, but I wouldn't want to have my hopes high.

Meat Onigiri is small onigiri with blue cheese cube wrapped in humberg meat and I just remembered that they are meat onigiri and a ketchup rice croquette. Not two meat onigiris.

After I stuff them in the box and drizzles sweet sauce I realized that I forgot to make the sauce for it. darn

Accompanied with harumaki roll, grilled tomatoes and bell pepper.

Hope odebu enjoys them.

Octopus sausage and Fried rice bento

Odebu askes out of nowhere 'Can you make this?' with the photo of Octopus sausage on his laptop screen. 'Of course I can! But where did you see about the octopus sausage?? ', 'Anime!' Oh I should have known better... 'What's it called?' 'Sho ku geki nozoma' 'what???' 'Sho ku geki nozoma' 'Oh I don't understand what your japanese show me the anime you are talking about'.

He showed me this

f:id:Zophi:20171122202141j:plain

Ahhhhh I see it's 'Shokugeki no Sooma'. Very close!

Come to think of it we used to be hooked on this japanese tv series 'Shinya Shokudo'(Midnight Diner). I remember there was an episode about octopus sausage. And I remember Odebu being so exhilarated when he saw the red sausage. 'We eat red sausages too in Denmark!!' But they are not so small and don't come in the shape of octopus'.

f:id:Zophi:20171122202513j:plain

This is the sausage odebu was talking about surely red. But kinda too big to make it octopus. It might be fun though. I might try it someday.

Inari sushi:Tofu Pockets Bento

I asked odebu to stop at the asian grocery store and pick up a bottle of tonkatsu sauce. He came home with Tofu pockets and tonkatsu sauce. He really loves inari sushi. He really, REALLY loves them.

The good news for me is that I only need to stuff them with rice, easy peasy squeezy

Oh and I filled up the empty space with Pork Tatsuta age and Tamago yaki.
